Overview: El Primero – meaning ‘the first’ in Esperanto –, the chronograph that was to have a lasting impact on modern watchmaking, was presented on January 10th 1969. Over 40 years on, El Primero is still the most precise series-made chronograph, the only one capable of measuring short times to the nearest tenth of a second. It is also one of the most titled, having been honoured by numerous distinctions.
Well accustomed to technical challenges, Zenith built the Rainbow Flyback model in 1997 based on technical specifications established for the French Air Force. The result was a rugged, high-performance timepiece capable of standing up to the most extreme conditions. This model is called the “Rainbow” because of the colorful minute register, central seconds hands, and bezel. These colors are meant to make the watch easy to read in low-light situations like in a cockpit.
